HANBURY MANOR IN HERTFORDSHIRE - THE PERFECT SPRING WEDDING VENUE
Emma and Greg wanted a fun evening with a minimum of fuss with family and friends. They chose Hanbury Manor in Hertfordshire as their venue. Emma says: "We knew we wanted to stay local and as it was going to be early spring, we just loved the Summer House, it is such a beautiful light and airy space that overlooks the garden courts at Hanbury Manor, with the cherry blossoms and daffodils just coming in to bloom. The summer house allowed us to feel like it was outdoors without being outdoors - given how temperamental the weather in March can be! The large room right behind it was the perfect setting for our wedding breakfast with a balcony, sweeping stairs and a beautiful fireplace."

Hi, I'm Sarah, a Hertfordshire wedding photographer.
I love being able to document the raw emotions and excitement of a wedding day and take pride in delivering stunning images that my couples will cherish for a lifetime.

EMMA WORE A STELLA YORK WEDDING DRESS
" I had the dress customised to have a boat neckline, it was simple, understated and classic. I knew what style I wanted as I knew what suited me best but I couldn’t find it in my price range so I decided to work with a dressmaker to customise a dress. The dress also had pockets, which was a must for me and a short train with buttons running down the back. As I knew I didn’t want a veil I chose a beautiful pearl headband to compliment and finish off the look with little gold block heels and jewellery.
I don’t like being the centre of attention, but I absolutely loved my hair and makeup on the day, it brought it all together for me. I loved how the dress moved! "
Greg wore a 3-piece textured navy suit from Antique Rogue, with brown brogues, a sage green tie and pocket square and personalised cufflink as a gift from Emma on the day. The suit was a lighter shade of blue so to stand out against the groomsmen.
The Bridesmaids wore sage green dresses to match the ties and each choose a different style that they felt suited them best.
All of our flowers including bouquets and buttonholes were made by our friend Michelle, which made the day even more special. The brief was white flowers and lots of green foliage and in keeping with the theme hits of gold.
HOW DID YOU FEEL ON THE DAY?
Surprisingly calm right up until I was about to walk down the aisle but once I saw Greg, I focused on him and once the ceremony was over I could really relax.
DETAILS
Emma is a skilled artist and drew a decorative flower border for the table plan and table name cards adding a personal touch. The team at Coral and Blue then arranged the names and created a timeline in gold print for the table plans. The table centrepieces were gold plinths with tiered candles underneath provided by Coral and Blue all put together by friend Michelle who did the most amazing flower display’s for the tables, mantel piece and stairs.
They had a beautiful 3 tiered naked cake made by Emma’s mum Dawn. Each layer was a different flavour starting with madeira jam sponge on the bottom, lemon cake in the middle and a boiled fruit cake on top which was made to Greg’s mum's recipe, decorated with flowers by Emma.
WHICH PARTS STOOD OUT FOR YOU MOST ON THE DAY?
It was such a magical day, it all stands out, but seeing our families mix together was very special as Greg’s had travelled over from Australia to be with us on the day and because it rained all day we have some amazing pictures with umbrellas thanks to our wonderful photographer Sarah.
EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
Pete from Coral and Blue was DJ for the evening. We had a custom-made photo booth for the day and a polaroid camera which was a hit with the nieces and nephews! Guests could stick their photos and leave us a message in our memory book, which we will keep forever. We also had laid a table of Greg’s favourite chocolates and sweets from Australia for everyone to enjoy.
TOP TIPS FROM THE BRIDE:
Don’t be led by other’s opinions, stick to what you both want and know - a spreadsheet also helps!
Let go and don’t sweat the small stuff, if there are any issues on the day, get your best man or bridesmaid to deal with any problems.
Make sure to find some time together to enjoy the moments!
